Kitesurf in SXM

By the Hills Residence Vacations Rentals

Explore Sint Maarten from Waterside

Taking kitesurf lessons during your vacation rentals at The Hills Residence in Simpson Bay can be an enthralling experience, combining the breathtaking scenery of St. Maarten with the thrill of the sport.

While Sint Maarten / Saint Martin is known for being a little windy, it also has the perfect conditions to kitesurf all year around. With a big sail and a board with straps you can learn how to glide on the water and discover a whole new world of possibilities while using the strength of the wind.

The best spot for kitesurfing on Saint Martin is Orient Bay, located on the northeastern part of the island, it has great conditions and also has a local club on the spot, with a professional team ready to teach you everything you need to know about kite surfing before you jump into the water.

Take a Kitesurf Lesson

The lesson time may vary depending on what your needs are. What they generally propose are packages of multiple lessons during your stay so you can learn and give yourself the time to really get what you are doing, with the board, and with the sail. Be aware that kitesurfing is considered as an extreme sport, so safety is very important and should always be prioritized.

Depending on the wind conditions, there are other spots on the island where you can kitesurf. The Lagoon for example is a great place, as you will have no waves and very few other riders. If you are a beginner and want to try training on your own, the lagoon is probably one of the safest places to do it, because there is no current, and many boats pass by, so if anything happens, someone will come and help you.

And if you want a more challenging parkour, some higher-level riders like to take off at Orient Bay and go until Wilderness, while passing in front of Pinel Island. Before doing so, always let someone know where you are going and at what time you think you’ll be back.

The instructor will follow you by boat to ensure your safety and guide you along your experience. The spot is perfect for riders of all levels.

We recommend you go with a local charter, as the waters around Scrub Island are known to be rough.
